Lunch 11:30am at the club, men's shotgun start tournament 1pm, dinner 6:30pm
Pre-registration for golf and dinner is required by Feb. 15, 2009: email Joe

Dear Classmates,
At this time of year just ask yourself - wouldn't I rather be in Florida? Preferably with a few friends, hanging out under the palms near Sarasota, having lunch, a few pops, maybe a round of golf and then dinner at a casual restaurant on the water?
Then mark your calendars for Tuesday, March 10, 2009, thanks to arrangements made by Don Swan and the undersigned.
We'll gather about 11:30 a.m. at the lovely and challenging Oaks Club in Osprey, FL. After lunch we'll join a men's golf tournament at 1 p.m., shotgun start. Ladies are welcome to play together on the Oaks' other course.
Following golf we'll have dinner around 6:30 p.m. at the nearby
Casey Key Fish House, where pelicans soar, and white egrets stroll.
Details on greens fees, accommodations, etc. are available from me, Barefoot Joe at

Carpe Diem!
Best regards,
Joe McGinity

March 10, 2009 - Just another day in paradise
Sx intrepid '61 golfers converged from near and far March 10, at scenic Sarasota FL, for the 7th annual class winter golf outing. Swan hosted at the beautiful Oaks Golf and Country Club with Edmunds, Higgins, Leisring, McWhinnie and McGinity on hand.
It was a perfect day for golf - sunny, 80 degrees, nice breeze off the Gulf of Mexico. The Oaks is a warm and welcoming club, with two great golf courses, tennis courts, and pool. We played on the Eagle course, which Don guaranteed would be challenging. After taking an 8 on the first hole and losing a ball, I realized he wasn't kidding! Lots of water, alligators, sand traps and huge, hilly greens made the Eagle a challenge for our best golfers. Andy Higgins took top honors with a round of 80, followed by Swan and Leisring. Whatever the score, the course was exceptional and it sure beat shoveling snow.
Thanks Don!
After golf we picked up our wives and sweethearts (Brenda, Judy, Marsha, Suzanne and Louise) and met for dinner at the Casey Key Fish House nearby. Very casual spot overlooking a marina and beach in Osprey, Fl. Highly recommended, especially the black grouper and draft beer. Conversation was non-stop, and no doubt many of our classmates' ears were burning, including Draudt, Finch, Wickenden, Zschau, McKenzie, The Walls, Graham, Berton, Brakeley, O'Neill, Torell, Earle and others.
A full moon rose over the water as we parted - just another day in paradise.
