September, 2009
Dear Classmates,
I hope you all had a grand summer with friends and family and this letter finds you and yours in good health. Yours truly enjoyed several weeks in the Carolina mountains with visits from children and grandchildren followed by friends including a few classmates. Almost as enjoyable was the fishing for redfish and speckled trout on the Louisiana coast which was particularly good this summer.
Now that fall (in Princeton anyway) is almost upon us, the attention of your class officers has turned to class activities for the 2009-2010 school year.
Class Dues Support Our Class & Provide PAW
First up on that list is the request for payment of class dues. Dues are still only $50 and a bargain compared to our nearby classes. For example, '62 charges $62 per year. Your dues entitle you to receive regular editions of Princeton Alumni Weekly (PAW) as well as participate in the events that are the life of the class.
Class of 1961 Scholarship Supports Seven Students
While you are at it, please consider making a contribution to the class scholarship fund. This year seven young men and women are attending Princeton because of your generosity. Please show your continued support for this very worthy class undertaking. In its lifetime, this program has provided a Princeton education to several hundred young scholars who otherwise would not have enjoyed the privilege that we enjoyed.
So, please fill out the
online form which will transmit the information to your faithful Treasurer, Mike Burton, designating which donation is for dues and which is for the scholarship fund. Also, don't forget to include information on you, your family or classmates for Scribe George Brakeley to share with the class in his
PAW epistles.
Yale Football Game Tailgate and Dinner November 14th, 2009.
The Tigers will be hosting the Bulldogs in Palmer Stadium in a continuation of the longstanding rivalry between Princeton and Yale. We have planned a class tailgate lunch preceding the game in Jadwin Gym followed by a post game victory party and dinner at Quadrangle Club organized by Patrick Davidson and Joe McGinity. It is a great day to spend with friends, so plan to come with spouse, friends, children and grandchildren. Wear your '61 gear and let your Tiger spirit show. Details are on the website.
Other Events
February will find the faithful on the slopes of Deer Valley Utah with Jim Blair and Ted Newlin hosting a skiing outing for the class. Late winter features the always enjoyable class dinner at the Racquet Club in New York City as well as the class golf tournament in Florida. May will find us back in Princeton for our 49th Reunion. We are also discussing mini-reunions around hockey and basketball games in the fall and winter. So check out this website from time to time to see the details on class events, and come join your fellow Tigers.
Finally, we are well into the planning for our fabulous 50
th Reunion scheduled for May 26-29, 2011. Joe Prather, Ev Prather and VJ Menna are our co-chairs for the event and have started recruiting a super
reunion committee to manage the event. But there is also room (need) for more volunteers, so if the spirit moves you, please give me, Ev, Joe, VJ or any of the other officers a shout and we will be delighted to add your oar to the reunion boat. Check out the website for updates on reunion planning activities.
Pat, George, Len, Mike and I look forward to seeing you soon at one of these events.
Y'all come ya hear.
Best Wishes,
