Handicapped Access: as of 2/21/11
Those classmates or spouses etc. with mobility issues, partially handicapped or fully, should not miss reunions. If they let me know what their issues are, I can help guide them on how to make their reunion experience great. They can stay on campus where there are ADA rooms in the newer dorms. There are golf carts that are available at a per diem cost for the whole reunion or for just the P'rade. The   bus systems both on and off campus do have buses with handicapped and wheel chair accessibility. The campus also has reserved parking for handicapped with the appropriate plates etc.

Golf carts must be ordered before May 1, but the earlier the better. Also most campus venues are handicapped accessible. Click here for information about renting personal golf carts. Panek's Golf Car Service 609-490-0242,  paneksgolf@aol.com. When calling Panek about golf carts, one needs to talk with Carol, the rental person, but she will not be dealing with reunion rental until March 14. Rates are $85/day for a 2 seat, $110/day for 4 seat. If they are to be used at night they need lights which are $65 one time fee. Limited number of 4 seat carts. Need to place order before early May.

Click here for a map of parking and handicapped parking. Handicapped parking is an area in the large parking lot to the rear of the parking garage to the left off Elm Road. There is a shuttle stop there and all shuttle buses are supposed to have lifts.

Key is that the Reunion Committee needs to know about their needs as soon as possible so I can work with the University, Reunion committee etc. to make their stay the best it can be. On the registration form, use the Special Needs box.

One thing I recently found from my Polio Network of New Jersey newsletter is that Drive-Master Co. offers wheelchair- accessible van rentals at their Fairfield NJ location. They cover NJ & NY, including the airports, with delivery. For info contact 877-282-8267 or www.drive-master.com.

The newsletter also has a reference for wheelchair travel books by Candy Harrington ( www.candyharrington.com). 3rd edition of "Barrier-Free Travels: A Nuts and Bolts Guide for Wheelers and Slows Walkers", "101 Accessible Vacations" and "There Is Room at the Inn". May be ordered at www.candyharrrington.com/book/books/php or in bookstores.
